Hoosier Makeover

When I found this gem I swear I wasn't going to paint it, I thought I loved it the way it was! The wood was in great nick and everything was in tact, except for a couple of pieces of missing  hardware!

All I had to do really was to clean it up and add some new liner to the drawers!

I had looked at a few pieces online and seen that they had been painted and they looked really good! You know what happened next!!

Yip, and I'm so glad I did! I love how it turned out!!

I chalk painted it in Dixie Belle's Butter Cream, then used Johnson's wax to finish! I used the sander to rough it up a little and to give it a worn look!

I even added new hardware. It gives it such character!

I found this one in Hobby Lobby!
I decided to leave the porcelain the way it was because it just gives it so much character!

I added new liner to freshen up the drawers! This was a good match I think! I also painted the inside with Dixie Belle's sea glass.

From The Graphics Fairy, I printed this "GRAINS" graphic onto wax paper, placed it onto the door, then used a credit card to rub the transfer off onto the door! It's a great technique and easy too! You can find it here! Transfer Method

I will never underestimate the power of paint! I am so delighted that I painted it now, it came out beautiful! I hope that I have inspired you too! Have a great week!

Coastal Style Casual Desk Makeover

I recently found this cute desk on Craigslist and couldn't wait to give it a new look! I LOVE all things beachy/coastal so it was easy for me to know what I wanted to do with it!

BEFORE!

The desk was in great shape, but for me it lacked interest!

Now, It has lots of character, color and interest! I love it!

I used a soft white chalk paint on the outside and Dixie Belle's Sea glass on the inside!

I added a new knob on the door and painted the drawer knobs and handles in a beachy blue! This hardware is gorgeous! I found a pack of four in Marshall's!

I chose this scroll stencil to add a bit of interest to the edge!

I added more detail by using a starfish and coral stencil to the  top of the drawers!

I don't have a finished picture yet for the front as I am deciding what phrase to write. Here is what it looks like!

Thanks so much for stopping by!
I'll be posting a picture on my facebook page soon!

I finally decided that the word "Beach" would be an appropriate choice to put on the desk and LOVE how it turned out!

I used this transfer technique.
I printed out the picture, then rubbed over the words on the back of the page. It helps to tape it to a window because the light will show you where to cover! You then place it right side up so and start to trace around the words, so that the charcoal will rub off onto the desk. When completed, I took a bronze permanent marker and basically colored in the words!

Have a great day!
Shirley.

Christmas Book Page Wreath

I hope everyone is having a great Holiday season! If you haven't found the perfect wreath yet for indoors, here is an easy and inexpensive way of making your own!

What you will need:
 One paperback book
A marker
Glue gun
Grapevine wreath
Ribbon

Start out by ripping out the pages carefully.
Make sure your hot glue gun is on.
Fold pages in half.
Place your marker in the middle of the paper, then scrunch the paper around the marker.

Put a good amount of glue on the bottom of the paper, then place onto the wreath. Hold it for a few seconds. Continue all the way around.

Decide where you want your ribbon and tie it in place! Once the ribbon is attached, place paper in between ribbon for a full look!

Continue to add the paper till you are done!

TIP
Hang the wreath, then stand back and check to see if you need to add more in certain places!

This took me a good 3 hours, but was definitely worth it! I love how it turned out and fits my Christmas theme perfectly! Have a wonderful Christmas and as always, thanks for stopping by!

Happy Holidays!
