Fall Mantel 2014

The next couple of weeks are going to be very busy for me! My brother and his wife are coming to visit all the way from Bonnie Scotland.... YAY! I can't wait to see them! Ooooh! I better get my list written out for him to bring me my favorite chocolates and whatnot, he he! I know it's a bit early to decorate for Fall when it's still blistering hot out there and it's only the beginning of September, but before you know it, it'll be here!  Today I'm sharing some ideas on how to create a beautiful Fall mantel.

First things first! I bought two of these old windows from Craigslist for $40 a while ago. Iv'e always wanted to chalk paint the panes. I used Rustoleum's black chalk board paint for just under $10 at The Home Depot. I think it makes a wonderful background for any time of year. It took about three coats of paint!

When decorating, use color and height to balance your design. Use things you already have around the house! I found this little oil jug which I never use and filled it with foliage from my back yard. You could also use wild flowers.

I bought these pumpkins a couple of years ago and although I love the color I thought they would look amazing if I chalk painted them. I just mixed some white and black chalk paint to get a soft grey color. I missed a few areas, but that's okay they still look good! Don't be afraid to experiment, just go for it!

Wrap straw around your candles to add interest.

I purchased this wreath at the craft store for a few dollars! While shopping at the Dollar Tree I found the perfect  bouquet of flowers. I didn't want too much bunched together so I  pulled the leaves and flowers off the stems and placed them around the wreath.

Use different heights and textures for your candle holders to add interest and color.

Add a couple of tea lights to give ambient lighting on cozy Fall evenings!

Thank you for stopping by.
Have a great weekend!
