DIY Gallery Wall

I've been debating forever on buying an entertainment center to fill the wall space where I have my TV, but haven't found one that would work yet. I do plan on buying one somewhere down the road, but for now I decided to design a gallery wall. My first project for the wall was my Pottery barn inspired Beach sign

I never really had a plan, it just all fell in place as I went along. I've always loved the look of  a chicken wire frame and the casual feel they have so I thought it would be fun and inexpensive to make one.

When designing your wall choose pieces that you love.  I must have moved things around a million times until I got it the way I wanted it. I used a lot of objects. If you are doing a gallery wall with just photo frames it's so much easier and there are a lot of tutorials out there on how to! I wanted to add a personal touch. This is my old street name from where used to live in Scotland. I stenciled it onto old reclaimed wood and roughed it up with sand paper.

Once you have all of your large pieces in place, fill in the spaces with smaller items. I just cut a small block of wood, chalk painted it black then stenciled it. The clock was from Ross for $10.

Fill in spaces with interesting objects that have texture and dimension. I tried to keep a uniform color throughout.

The letter A was a little boring so I added some chevron scrap book paper behind it.

In addition to the collage I stained a piece of wood and painted an arrow on it with latex paint then roughed it up with sand paper.

I chose a clear vase so you can still see through it. I added white beachy sticks and starfish to add interest.
Using the chevron scrap book paper in the frame with the black and white picture adds interest and color.

I found this basket at Ross for $17. It was almost the same color as the unit so I painted it with my new chalk paint to brighten it up. It was still a little dull so I dry brushed some white latex paint over it.

Yesterday we took a trip to Elizabeth city, NC where I found this quaint little store called Floor 2 Ceiling Designs There, I bought this beautiful fabric to make my pillow covers. I also picked up some chalk paint by American paint company which I can't wait to use!

This is my completed gallery wall.

Thanks for stopping by.
Have a safe and fun Memorial day.
