Beach Cottage Guest Room

I've always wanted to have a beach house, but unfortunately I don't! One can only dream, right? I did however decorate my guest room with a beach, cottage style and it was a lot of fun!  This room overlooks our back yard which has the best scenery. I thought it would make a great guest room! I used as many things as possible that were in the room and painted all of the furniture with Annie Sloan's chalk paint. The paint you see here was from the "oops" section at Lowe's for $7. It looked like a pale grey, but when I put it on the wall it was very blue, so I mixed it with some beige. It turned out great and  I love it now!

I constructed this beach sign just like my Pottery Barn Inspired Beach Sign. I white washed the wood, and then free handed the words.

The headboard was easy. I laid two pieces of wood on the back of the headboard and used a nail gun to attach them. I will be sharing tutorials on another blog post. I  bought these decorative balls for $5, then pushed  Christmas lights through the balls.  This is an easy, inexpensive way to add low lighting. I love it!

Who needs expensive art when you can do it yourself! I just stenciled  onto the burlap and voila! Perfect art for this space!

I painted this frame with a "grey wash" to give a  "Beachy feel" and again used burlap and stenciled "Gone to the beach" I love this look!

The ambiance lighting is so beautiful at night!

Layering your rugs gives your space more color, texture and interest.
Here is the dresser and mirror before I painted it with Annie Sloan's chalk paint!

Dresser and mirror after.

I love this basket, but it had black stripes on it and didn't work in this space. You know me, Ha ha! Yes I painted it!

I love painting my own art! You really can't go wrong because if you mess up, paint it over in a neutral color then start over. "Life is better at the beach".

 Painted dresser.

I loved these dish towels, but couldn't see myself using them for dishes! What else would one do? Why make pillow covers of course! These were the perfect color too.

Beach Art

My daughter is quite the artist! She painted this beautiful beach scene which looks perfect in the room!

More of my daughters artwork!
